Notes on Some Ingredients
- Cetearyl Alcohol is a moisturizing "fatty alcohol" that binds the ingredients together and does not dry skin. In fact, the FDA allows skincare with Cetearyl Alcohol to be labeled "alcohol free."
- ​Phenoxyethanol ​keeps the product safe as it prevents fungi, bacteria, and yeast from growing in the jar. Excellent for skincare, but it should not be ingested in very large quantities. Avoid in lip products. Do not use on nipples if breastfeeding.
- ​Phytosphingosine is a naturally occurring part of skin, responsible to maintain moisture. It's an excellent ingredient for skin. In addition to building skin's barrier, phytosphingosine also calms skin and fights aging.
- ​Ethylhexylglycerin is humectant (draws moisture into the skin from the air), which is created when glycerin is mixed with oil, and unsurprisingly softens skin.Â
Common Sense Cautions when using a new skincare product
- ​Not For Face or EYES: Unless a product is made for the face, do not use it on the face. Most importantly, keep products away from the eyes.
- ​Not for Pregnant or Breastfeeding Mothers: While we do not have proof that ingredients harm the baby, we also do NOT have proof that they are safe.
- ​Spot Test for Sensitivity: All new skincare products require a spot test. We require you to spot test.  HOW TO SPOT TEST: (1) Take at least a pea-sized amount of the product, and (2) use the product as instructed on a patch of skin -- your upper arm or thigh are good choices. (3) Repeat for 5 days. (4) If you show any sensitivity, immediately stop using the product, and email us at help@optimizemyskin.com
